This hard drive includes an original film commemorating the 50th anniversary and documenting the history of the UCSF Black Caucus produced by videographer Lawrence Rickford for the 2018 Black Caucus Gala and interviews (6 interviews of about 1-hour each) with the Black Caucus founders and elders.

Conditions Governing Access

1 folder of materials in Box 1 from 1993 related to the Adams/Trystad discrimination complaint is restricted due to sensitive legal information.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Donated by Karen Newhouse in May of 2019. Newhouse served as Associate Diversity Director in the Office of UCSF Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity from 1970 - 2010.

Scope and Contents

Collection contains about 1.5 cartons of paper files related to the work of the Office of UCSF Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, and includes materials from related organizations, such as the Council of Minority Organizations (COMO), the Latin American Campus Association (LACA), as well as some early (1970-1979) Black Caucus materials, including an audiocassette recording. Includes legal information on workplace discrimination and retaliation, as well as photocopies of articles related to the study of workplace diversity. Also includes the files of a number of Chancellor's Advisory committees, as well as reports and statistics on campus diversity at UCSF, as well as at other UCs.
Collection also includes about 1.5 cartons of audiovisual and digital materials, including approximately 70 3.5 inch floppy disks, dating from about 1998-2009. It also 2 CDs and 2 VHS tapes of "UCSF: An Adventure in Healthcare," created by the Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, as well as 3 CD-Rs (one labeled "UCSF Diversity Celebration").
Additionally, there is a manilla envelope of posters and photographs related to the Black Caucus, and an envelope containing keychains and other realia.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Physical materials are in good condition; condition of audiovisual and digital materials has not yet been assessed, but carriers appear to be in good condition.
