Record Series 578 contains the administrative files of James R. Cox, generated during his time at the libraries of the University
of California, Los Angeles.
Background
James R. Cox was born January 5, 1926 in Fresno, CA. Cox earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science at Stanford in 1949
and his Master of Library Science at UC Berkeley in 1954. He began working at the UCLA library in 1954, serving in gifts and
exchange, as head of the Geology Library, Head of Circulation (1960-1977), Acting Associate University Librarian for Public
Services (1977-1979), and Assistant to the University Librarian (1979-1983). While at UCLA, Cox compiled and donated Albright
library bibliography. In 1983, Cox became University Librarian at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia.
