Scope and Content

Collection of photographic postcards and pictures, chiefly of musicians, some with inscriptions, notes, or greetings, and other memorabilia, including letters and Sadilek's musical diary, particularly as they pertain to her musical studies and friendship with Xaver Scharwenka, German pianist, composer, and pedagogue.

Memoir, Winter 1909-1910 (description of a "musical tea" held at the home of Xaver Scharwenka. This typescript account appears to have been written years after the event, perhaps as a newspaper interview).

Scope and Content Note

The memoir describes Marie Wieck, 1832-1916, the younger sister of Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann, as the guest of honor. Scharwenka's Fourth Piano Concertowas played by Emil Frey, with the composer playing the orchestra part. Several evenings later Marie Wieck performed.
