    Abstract: George W. Parsons (1850-1933) was a charter member of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce serving as director and chairman on the Committee on Mines and Mining as well as on the Transportation Committee. He was active in promoting Southern California oil and mineral development. The collection consists of materials documenting Parsons' activities as a mining engineer and as the chairman of the Mining Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

    Biography

    Parsons was born in Washington, D.C., August 26, 1850; graduated Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, New York; moved to California, 1876 and worked for several years at National Bank & Trust Company San Francisco; moved to Tombstone, Arizona, 1880, and was involved in mining; relocated to Los Angeles, California, 1887 and was charter member Chamber of Commerce serving as director and chairman for Committee on Mines and Mining, and Transportation Committee; represented California at Omaha Exposition; was identified with mining industry and was active in promoting Southern California oil and mineral development, Los Angeles Harbor, and many civic projects in Los Angeles; died 1933.

    Collection consists of materials documenting George Whitwell Parsons' activities as mining engineer and chairman of the Mining Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. Includes scrapbooks of clippings, letters, and ephemera.
