Leland Stanford's association with the Manzanita Water Company. Also includes papers
relating to Leland Stanford's San Francisco properties and recommendations of the Pacific
Improvement Company to sell Monterey Peninsula holdings.

Historical Summary
Since the early 1860s, The Manzanita Water Company distributed water for domestic,
manufacturing, and irrigation purposes. Their primary clients included Stanford University
and nearby organizations such as St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. Notably, the company
was involved with the construction of the Searsville Dam in 1891 and a legal dispute with
the Bear Gulch Water Company over water rights in 1901. In the early 1900s, the Manzanita
Water Company changed its name to the Crystal Springs Water Company.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains correspondence, journal, stock journal, by-laws, description of
lands, water grants, legal documents, and some papers pertaining to Leland Stanford's
association with the Manzanita Water Company. Also included are miscellaneous records
concerning the Vina Ranch and San Francisco properties of Leland Stanford and the Pacific
Improvement Company recommendations to sell Monterey Peninsula holdings.
