Abstract: Moriyuki Shimada was twenty-two years old when he and his family were forcibly removed from their home in Santa Clara, California
to the Heart Mountain Concentration Camp in Wyoming. Shimada created a scrapbook after the war with the photographs he had
taken and collected during his incarceration.

The scrapbook was acquired in 1992 as a gift of Mori Shimada.

Biographical Note
Moriyuki Shimada (1920-2000) was twenty-two years old when he and his family were forcibly removed from their home in Santa
Clara, California to the Heart Mountain concentration camp in Wyoming.
Scope and Content
The 108 photographs in this scrapbook consist of snapshots of friends, family, social and sporting events. The original scrapbook,
created after the war, was dismantled and the photographs removed for preservation purposes.

There is an umpire behind them both. George Miyahara was the first baseball from San Francisco then went to Heart Mountain
then after camp went back to San Francisco. Tas Yamada is sliding into home base and he is from San Jose, went to Heart Mountain
then after camp went to Detroit. Harry Miyakusu is the umpire from San Jose, then went to Heart Mountain, and returned to
San Jose. They are all San Jose Zebras. 1944 All-Star team from Heart Mountain which played a visiting team from Gila River.
Most of the players are wearing uniforms from local teams they played for before the war. Most of the fans were issei and
they wore fedora (Stetson) hats to the game. Heart Mountain All Stars won three games to two over Gila River All Stars. But
Gila River won all of the other games. All the games were at Heart Mountain.
