Biography
Dr. Dixon was born near Emporia, Virginia in 1861, subsequently being raised in Bristol,
Virginia. He received his B.A. from King College in the same town, and his M.D. from the
University of Virginia, July 1, 1891. At the University he became a demonstrator in
anatomy following graduation.
He came to Lemoore, CA in 1893, and was licensed to practice June 13, 1894. He remained
there for several years before moving to Hanford, where he remained until he retired from
practice shortly before his death. He early invested in land in Kettleman Hills, near
Hanford, and was rewarded for his foresight when oil was discovered there in the 30s.
Dixon was a member of the Masons, and of the Board of the First Presbyterian Church of
Hanford. He also held the position of County Physician for Kings County Hospital shortly
after its establishment, and for some years later. He also served as secretary of Hanford
Sanitarium.
Dr. Dixon died August 7, 1932, and was survived by his wife Victorine, and two daughters
(Mrs. J.V. Wood and Mrs. C.A. Renouf).
