Biography

Waldie was born in 1781; attended University of Edinburgh; awarded D.Lit; assumed the administration of Hendersyde Park at Kelso, Roxburghshire, Scotland, shortly before the death of his father, George Waldie, in 1826; traveled extensively in Europe; he died in 1862.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of 7 volumes of letters to John Waldie (1793-1841), 74 journal volumes, 11 volumes on travels transcribed from the journals, and 1 volume of passports (1827-1837). Includes an eyewitness narrative of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Journals provide commentary on the music, art, and theater of the period in Britain and Europe.
