Biography
The Folk Dance Federation of Southern California was established in 1946; its purposes were to conduct monthly festivals,
encourage research in authentic dance forms, and to provide recognized patterns of folk dances.
Note
The Folk Dance Federation of Southern California was established in 1946 and continues active up to the present time. The
first volume of minutes (Box 1) records the proceedings which led to its setting up and the by-laws adopted March 10, 1946.
The purposes of the organization included the provision for and conduct of, if possible, monthly festivals, encouragement
of research in authentic dance forms and the making available of recognized patterns of folk dances.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of minutes, membership directories, historian books (scrapbooks), Dance Institute notes, programs, correspondence,
various publications, and proceedings of the Santa Barbara and San Diego folk dance conferences, which include dance descriptions.
