    Biography

    Crouch was born on July 4, 1907 in Vandalia, Illinois; professor (1936-75) and emeritus professor of political science, UCLA; Fulbright fellow in India, 1954; wrote several books, including: State and Local Government in California (1952), Agricultural Cities: Paradoxes in Politics of a Metropolis (1964), Employer-Employee Relations in Council-Manager Cities (1968), Guide for Modern Personnel Commissions (1972), and Organized Civil Servants: Public Employer-Employee Relations in California (1978).

    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of subject files relating to Crouch's study of California and local government. Includes materials related to the civil service commission and the California Council on Metropolitan Affairs, a bibliography on the California legislature, and a conference on education for the public service. Also contains manuscripts of works by Crouch, including Los Angeles: a Changing Metropolis. Also includes printed materials collected by Crouch.
