    History

    Gold was discovered in the Meadow Lake vicinity in 1863. Two years later a belated rush began. On July 25, 1865, the Meadow Lake Mill and Mining Company was incorporated. The company was engaged in a variety of activities ranging from mining interests and the operation of sawmills to the organization of the Meadow Lake Turnpike Company which built and maintained a toll road.
