Abstract: Martha Ennis Johnson (d. 1984) was the associate dean of financial aid at UCLA before she became the director of the Venice Service Center in Los Angeles. She was also an author who wrote The Idle Poor, short stories and a one-act play, The catalyst. The collection contains a manuscript of The Idle Poor, as well as clippings for research and correspondence regarding its publication. There are also general office records, personnel records, and publications of the Venice Service Center, Johnson's resumé, and three eulogies from her memorial service.

Biography

Johnson received a BA in philosophy with honors from UCLA in 1964; did graduate work in philosophy, theater arts and education, and took extension courses in theater arts, education, psychology and English; was associate dean, financial aids, UCLA; she became a director of a private, non-profit educational agency, the Venice Service Center, in Los Angeles; wrote The Idle Poor, along with short stories and a one-act play, The catalyst; she died on December 21, 1984.

Collection contains Martha Ennis Johnson's manuscript, The Idle Poor, as well as clippings for research and correspondence regarding its publication. Also contains general office records, personnel records, and publications of the Venice Service Center in Los Angeles, as well as Johnson's resumé and three eulogies from her memorial service.
