Scope and Content

The Sharon Family Papers, which were given to the Bancroft Library in May 1960 by William F. Sharon, are divided into three parts: Part I, the papers of Frederick William Sharon (1857-1915), the son of Senator William Sharon; Part II, the papers of his wife, Louise (Tevis) Breckinridge Sharon, the daughter of Lloyd Tevis; and Part III, the papers of Sharon's brother-in-law, Francis G. Newlands, who later became U. S. Senator from Nevada.
Frederick Sharon's papers (26 boxes and 1 carton) relate primarily to his many business investments, his real estate holdings in San Francisco, Washington, D. C., and New York City, and the operation of the Palace Hotel, San Francisco. They also include reports of the Sharon Estate Company. Mrs. Sharon's papers (8 boxes) consist of social and family correspondence and letters concerning her business affairs. Senator Newland's papers (3 boxes) relate mainly to his work as trustee of the Sharon Estate Company.
