In the spring of 1864 it returned to California and was mustered out as a company at San Francisco, October 10, 1864." "...a new Company B was organized" and "remained at Camp Union, Sacramento, until June 1865, when it moved to Dun Glen, Nevada where it served until mustered out in the spring of 1866." "Company H, after organization at Camp Alert, was sent to Fort Churchill, Nevada..." This company was stationed at many different locations. The original members mustered out at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory during September and October 1864. At Camp Union, Sacramento, the Company again filled its ranks and remained active until its final mustering out at the San Francisco Presidio, April 26, 1866. Correspondence dated November 21, 1911 removes charges of desertion occurring in 1865. Correspondence dated Jan. 4, 1941 included Certificate of Discharge of Bartle C. Hutchison who had served in the Militia from 1861 to 1864.

"This regiment at San Francisco, California and Carson City, Nevada, during the months of October and December, 1861, the earliest enlistments having been made September 2, 1861. Its first Colonel was Francis J. Lippitt, who was mustered out with the regiment during the month of October, 1864. He was made Brevet Brigadier-General, March 13, 1865, for faithful service during the war. Colonel Lippitt came to California as Captain in Stevenson's New York Regiment, in 1847; he was afterwards a member of the Constitutional Convention, held in Monterey, in 1849."
