Scope and Content

This collection, purchased from Holmes Book Co., May 20, 1953, contains mainly courtship letters of Jerome A. Hart, editor of the Argonaut, and of Ann Clark, relating to the publication of the periodical and to San Francisco social life in the 1890's. A small portion of Clark family correspondence (William Squire Clark, early California settler, was Ann Clark's father) dating from 1869 to 1873 and pertaining chiefly to family matters is included.
