Correspondence, legal papers, and miscellaneous corporation papers relating to the establishment, bankruptcy and dissolution of San Francisco Bay Exposition, sponsor of the Golden Gate International Exposition, San Francisco, 1939-1940.

    History

San Francisco Bay Exposition, a non-profit California corporation, was organized in 1934 as sponsor and organizer of the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939. The purpose of the exposition was to celebrate completion of the San Francisco-Oakland and Golden Gate Bridges
At the close of the exposition in 1939, bankruptcy proceedings were instituted under Chapter XI of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco. An arrangement was made with approval of the Court to reopen the exposition in 1940, following which creditors were paid off at about eighty-two cents to the dollar.
The corporation was voluntarily dissolved in 1946.
