    Historical Note:

Established in 1943, San Diego State chartered the San Diego State University Foundation to provide and augment programs and goals not financially supported by the State of California. Today, the Foundation promotes, administers, and provides funds for research conducted by SDSU faculty and graduate students. As a non-profit auxiliary to SDSU, it administers approximately 1,000 grants and contracts annually, making it the largest auxiliary in the California State University system. It also oversees real property development and management for the University. In 2004 the SDSU Foundation became the SDSU Research Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to "further the educational, research and community service objectives of San Diego State University."

    Scope and Contents

The San Diego State University Foundation Collection (1943-2002) documents the operation and administration of the Foundation.  Highlights include materials related to the College Community Redevelopment Project, which seeks to provide more student housing, better public transportation, parking, and general improvements to the college area.  The collection consists of annual reports, meeting minutes, budget reviews, account disbursements, correspondence, memorandums, by-laws, guidelines, and press releases, with particularly heavy documentation for the 1970s.
