Biographical Note

A Russian-American historian, Prince Andrei Lobanov-Rostovsky was a specialist on Russo-Asian relations and a professor of Russian history at the University of Michigan and the University of California at Los Angeles.
1892 Born in Yokohama, Japan.
1920 Left Russia after serving in the White Army.
1917 Witnesses outbreak of the Russian Revolution.
1914-1918 Abandoned legal studies at St. Petersburg to serve in the Russian Imperial Army during World War I.
1945-1962 Served as professor of Russian History at the University of Michigan.
1936 Became an American citizen.
1930-1945 Served as a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles.
1930 Came to the United States.
1924-1930 Lectured in the School of Slavonic Studies of the University of London and at the British Royal Institute of International Affairs.
  Served as a foreign correspondent for Baring Brothers, Limited, London.
1920-1923 Attended the Institut des Sciences Politiques of the University of Paris.
1979 Died in Washington, D.C.

Scope and Content of Collection

This collection contains correspondence, clippings, diaries, manuscripts, writings, notes, and other printed matter relating to Russian history, world affairs, and other subjects of interest to or on Andrei Lobanov-Rostovsky.
Lobanov-Rostovsky's library, including a set of publications of the Russian Orthodox Mission in Peking (Beijing), was donated to the Hoover Institution Library in 2011.
