Donor and date of acquisition unknown.
Daggett was born in Richville, NY and died in San Francisco, CA. He came to California in 1849 to become a miner. By 1852
he was involved with several Bay Area newspapers. He moved to Virginia City, NV in 1862, and later became the Republican United
States Representative for Nevada from 1879-1881. From 1882-1885 he was the United States Minister Resident to the Kingdom
of Hawaii. He returned to San Francisco doing editorial work. His body is interred in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
This folder contains a poem from 1881 written by Daggett entitled “My New Year’s Guests.”
