Howard Hollman was born in 1941 and raised in San Diego. He was a member of Los Chicanos, a social group based in Logan Heights.
After serving in the Air Force he attended San Diego Mesa College and SDSU where he majored in Public Administration and Chicana
and Chicano Studies, both on the G.I. Bill. While in college, he worked as a peer counselor for the Educational Opportunity
Program and advocated for farm worker's rights. In 1968, Hollman became an active member of the Mexican American Political
Association (MAPA) and shortly after joined the Committee on Chicano Rights (CCR). He was co-founder of the Union del Barrio
in 1982, and has collaborated with the Logan Heights Car Club Council. Hollman is currently a member of the Chicano Park Steering
Committee and the Save our Centro Coalition, an initiative to re-establish the Centro Cultural de La Raza.
