Includes original introduction by Richard H. Eastman, 1981, photocopy of biography of Leighton by Douglas A. Skoog, c. 1981,
and photocopy of Leighton's manuscript, 1978, which concerns his viewing of the sunset from Point Arguello (Santa Barbara
County), with a brief history of the exploration of California.
Leighton joined the Stanford University Dept. of Chemistry in 1928; he became a full professor in 1937 and served as executive
head of the Department from 1939 until his retirement in 1954.
