R. W. Hanna owned or leased ranch land in Tehama County, in the vicinity of Vina Ranch, Leland Stanford’s ranch that became
Stanford University property. Albert M. Apperson was his ranch manager.
Scope and Contents note
The papers largely consist of letters from Hanna to Apperson, 1927-1934, pertaining to ranch management, land acquisition,
setting up a quail preserve, organized hunting parties, care of horses and dogs, and other routine matters. Other subjects
include an airplane trip from San Francisco to El Paso, Texas, in 1928, and setting up a “hard-times colony” on his land in
1932. Other items in the papers include a letter to Eva Apperson and several bulletins on food preparation from the agriculture
extension, 1943-1945; and two photographs [copy prints] of the Stanford Ranch office and the Copeland House on the Stanford
