Historical Note:
The Advisory Board on Women (formerly the Advisory Board on the Status of Women) was organized in June 1973 to advise the
Mayor, the City Council, and other city agencies of the needs and problems of women in San Diego. The Board worked toward
establishing a county-wide system for dealing with sexual assault, finding a way to provide low- and middle-income women with
legal aid in the collection of child support, assisting women in career choices, and other issues. The Board is voluntary
in nature and has worked closely with the City Council, the Police Department, and other public and private organizations.
