Series I. Pompeii, 1826

Physical Description: 3.34 linear feet 2 boxes

Scope and Content Note

Seventy-four architectural drawings, most are measured floor plans, elevations, and cross sections, as well as architectural and ornamental details, such as capitals, columns, etablatures. Most drawings are captioned in French by Isabelle.
Numerous drawings depict private houses; where appropriate the cataloger included site numbers from Corpus Topographicum Pompeianum.
Other drawings document the basilica, a soldiers' quarters, the Triangular Forum, a music academy, the Pantheon, the Forum, and theater buildings. A large group comprises drawings of temples, including the temples of Isis, Neptune, Esculape, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Fortuna. Also present are drawings of the tomb of the Mammia family and the tomb of Calventius.

Twenty-one drawings of objects in the collection of the Royal Bourbon Museum in Naples, now the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. All drawings are captioned Musée de Naples, and most are dated 26 July 1826. Among the objects depicted are lamp stands, relief sculptures and statues, vessels, fragments of wall paintings, and elements of architectural decoration.
