Abstract: John Cameron McCubbin (1863-1957) was an early California beekeeper in the San Joaquin
Valley. The majority of his papers contain business correspondence with other beekeepers, honey customers, and
equipment suppliers throughout the west and midwest. Also included are photographs of his apiaries and other
beekeepers, as well as materials relating to the California State Beekeepers Association and the California
Honey Producers Cooperative Exchange.

Biography
John Cameron McCubbin was born in Hancock County, Illinois on September 4, 1863 to Thomas and Martha Cameron
McCubbin. In April 1885, McCubbin moved to Red Bluff, California where he lived until August 1886. He then moved
to Traver, California and shortly thereafter accepted a position with the 76 Land and Water Company, eventually
becoming their Assistant Superintendent. In late 1889, McCubbin left the 76 Company and moved to Selma,
California where be became a beekeeper.
John McCubbin passed away in Los Angeles, California on January 2, 1957.

Scope and Content
The John Cameron McCubbin Papers, which focus primarily on McCubbin's beekeeping business, span the years
1886-1934. The majority of his papers contain business correspondence with other beekeepers, honey customers,
and equipment suppliers throughout the west and midwest. Also included are photographs of his apiaries and other
beekeepers, as well as materials relating to the California State Beekeepers Association and the California
Honey Producers Cooperative Exchange.
