Description
Gianfranco Mantegna (1939-2001) was an Italian-born photographer who was a member of the Living Theatre from 1965 to 1969. His Papers contain photographs of Living Theatre productions and correspondence, posters, programs, and promotional materials relating to the Living Theatre.
Background
Gianfranco Mantegna (1939-2001) started his career as a photojournalist in Rome. From 1965 to 1969, he was a member of the Living Theater, after meeting the group in Italy. He wrote We, the Living Theatre (1970), a photographic essay. Mantegna settled in New York in the early 1970s. In 1990 he curated the U.S. participation in two Italian video festivals, "Taormina Arte Video" and "Riccione TTV."
