Description
Collection includes three items: DURHAM LAND COLONY, BUTTE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA; A HISTORY OF THE STATE LAND SETTLEMENT AT DURHAM 1917-1931, compiled by Adriana Farley and Marilyn Corley and published in 1996; STANFORD RANCH DURHAM, BUTTE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA by Adriana Farley, 2001; and a photocopy of THE MEMOIRS OF JAMES FLORENT VAN LOBEL SELS 1882-1977, with a few photocopied clippings on van Loben Sels, 1915-1917.
Background
Vina Ranch in Butte County was one of the properties owned by Leland and Jane Stanford that was part of the original endowment of Stanford University. In addition to fruits and wines, the ranch also raised cattle and sheep. James Florent van Lobel Sels was the ranch manager 1912-1917.
