Abstract: James Day Hodgson (1915- ) worked for the Lockheed Corporation as vice president of industrial relations (1968-69) before
serving as U.S. Undersecretary of Labor (1969-70), then Secretary of Labor (1970-73). He returned to the Lockheed Corporation
as senior vice president (1973-74), then served as ambassador to Japan (1974-77). He was also a adjunct professor at UCLA
(1977- ). The collection consists of office records, research notes, correspondence, press releases, speeches, lecture notes
and outlines, books, subject files and publications related to Hodgson's service as Undersecretary, then Secretary of Labor.

Biography
James Day Hodgson was born on December 3, 1915 in Dawson, Minnesota; AB, 1938, graduate student, 1940, University of Minnesota,
and UCLA, 1947-48; worked for Lockheed Corporation, 1941-69, serving as vice president of industrial relations, 1968-69; became
U.S. Undersecretary of Labor, 1969-70, then Secretary of Labor, 1970-73; senior vice president, Lockheed Corporation, 1973-74;
ambassador to Japan, 1974-77; chairman of the board, Uranium Mining Company, beginning in 1977; adjunct professor, UCLA, beginning
in 1977; visiting scholar, American Enterprise Institute.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of office records, research notes, correspondence, press releases, speeches, lecture notes and outlines,
books, subject files and publications related to James D. Hodgson's service as Undersecretary, then Secretary of Labor. Includes
secretarial memos and preparation data for appearances before Congressional committees.
