    Collection Scope and Content Summary

This collection comprises approximately 200 pieces of late 19th-century and early 20th-century popular American sheet music. Many important composers are represented, including George Cohen, H.P. Danks, Septimus Winner, and Charles Harris. Also included is a typescript copy of the libretto (Soufflierbuch) of Der Fliegende Rittmeister, 1912, by Leo Stein and Béla Jenbach, and a handwritten score of Richard Genèe's Die Mädchen-diebe [ The Wolves], 1860. Most individual scores have pictorial covers. The majority of songs are love songs, but the collection also includes vaudeville music and minstrel music by blackface entertainers such as Gus Edwards' and Tom Daley's "All I Wants is My Black Baby Back."
