    Abstract: Frank Joseph Klingberg (1883-1968) was born in Kansas was on the faculty at University of Southern California (1912-18)and appointed chairman of the History Department of the new Southern Branch of the University of California, serving for 18 years. He was a professor of history at UCLA until retirement in 1950. The collection consists of University and UCLA History Department files, correspondence, manuscripts and proofs, and research notes relating to Professor Frank Klingberg's books and articles.

    Biography

    Klingberg was born on February 25, 1883 on a farm at Turkey Creek, Dickinson County, Kansas; AB (1907) and MA, University of Kansas; Ph.D, Yale University, 1911; researcher, Bureau of the Census and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (1911-12); on faculty at University of Southern California (1912-18); lecturer, League to Enforce Peace (1918-19); appointed chairman of the History Department of the new Southern Branch of the University of California, serving for 18 years; was professor of history at UCLA until retirement in 1950; active in library and other university-wide committees; wrote dozens of articles for journals for the Los Angeles Times editorial pages; wrote several books, including The Anti-Slavery Movement in England: A Study in English Humanitarianism (1926) and An Appraisal of the Negro in Colonial South Carolina: A Study in Americanization (1941); he died on June 4, 1968 in Los Angeles.

    Collection consists of University and UCLA History Department files, correspondence, manuscripts and proofs, and research notes relating to Professor Frank Klingberg's books and articles.
