Background

Scope and content:

The Henry and Idelle Weissenberg Collection consists of a B'nai B'rith Weinberger Breitbard Lodge Banner, copies of 3 commemorative plaques, and assorted papers from North Coast B'nai B'rith Couples Unit #5282.

Biographical / historical:

The Weissenbergs were residents of the Jewish community of San Diego and active supporters of the B'nai B'rith.

The Independent Order of B'nai B'rith, founded in 1843, is the oldest continually operating Jewish service organization in the world, with lodges and chapters worldwide. The first San Diego lodge, the Lasker Lodge #370, was founded in 1887. From that original lodge came the Weinberger Lodge, the North Shores Lodge (later renamed the Breitbard Lodge), and several others. The Weinberger and Breitbard lodges later merged to form the Weinberger Breitbard Lodge.
