Scope and Contents
The
School of Music and Dance Records document the administrative work of the School, public events, and student performance work. It dates from 1957-2009. The
collection consists of two series:
Department Files and
Recital Recordings.
The
Department Files series consists primarily of paper records documenting the department's administration, but also documenting in part public
events put on by the department. It consists of numerous announcements, programs, and flyers advertising the department's
recitals, activities, and events. Highlights include a program for
The Lowland Sea: A Fold Opera in One Act written by Alec Wilder, departmental newsletters, and a copy of
Songs of San Diego State College, a publication of school songs with sheet music that includes "Hail Montezuma" written by noted composer and university faculty
member Dr. David Ward-Steinman. It dates from 1957-1993.
The
Recital Recordings series documents the performance work of students, faculty, and ensembles at San Diego State. The series consists primarily
of audio recordings of undergraduate and graduate recitals, as well as faculty performances, performances by chamber groups
and large ensembles, and a few lectures. A small portion of recital recordings are on video. The series dates from 1970-2009.
Materials are sorted into three sub-series by format:
Audio Cassettes,
VHS Tapes, and
CDs and DVDs. Each sub-series is filed by Music Library number.
