Biographical/Historical note
James Burr Hickman graduated from the US School of Military Aeronautics at the University of Illinois in 1918. Hickman was
in the US Air Reserve until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps for the duration of WWI. Having survived the war, it was very
unfortunate that on May 5, 1919 James Hickman died in an airplane accident at Coblenz, Germany. His family tried to the best
of their abilities to gather information after his death. Many of Hickman’s fellow soldiers wrote and sent maps to his family
in order to share the details of his death.
