Series Scope and Content Summary
This series contains the writings and professional files of Raymond L. Watson and include published articles, drafts of unpublished
manuscripts, speeches, lectures, handwritten and typewritten notes, critiques, notebooks, correspondence, articles about Watson,
collected research materials, and photographs. Materials in this series are in paper and digital formats. Subjects include
city planning, community development, The Irvine Company, the City of Irvine, the University of California, Irvine, and the
Irvine family, among others. Of particular interest are Watson's drafts of unpublished manuscripts and his writings located
in the digital component of this series. Watson's writings are iterative, with versions of papers or topics rewritten or repurposed
over time and they shed light on his professional interests and his writing processes.

Eisner served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at The Walt Disney Company, 1984-2005. Watson had been on the Board
at Disney since 1974. In 1983, Watson became Vice Chairman at Disney and then served as Chairman until 1984 when Eisner took
over. In 1984, Watson left active management at Disney, but remained as Chairman of the Executive Committee.

Processing Note
Watson's born digital files were originally sent via email, 2011. During the initial processing, the files were copied to
a networked data drive and preserved in their original formats (Microsoft Word and Excel). For further preservation, the files
were also burned onto a compact disc and stored with the collection. In 2012, the files were converted to PDF format in order
to facilitate preservation and access.
Scope and Content Note
Consists of 90 born digital files that include writings by Watson pertaining to Irvine Company developments in Orange County,
California; the planning of the University of California, Irvine and the City of Irvine; city planning; community planning;
and planned communities. Also included are reports and writings not authored by Watson that primarily relate to urban planning

Scope and Content Note
Consists of 173 slides documenting Irvine Company planning and developments. The slides remain in the original order given
by Watson, which were organized into two groupings: "TIC-PLNG 1518" and "Woodbridge 1519." Included are aerial views, exterior
views, and copy prints of plans and renderings of developments. The slides are primarily in color but there are also a few
black and white images. Most, if not all, of the slides are duplicated in the digitized slides within this collection.

Processing History
The slides were digitized by Watson in 1996 and 1997 and stored on five Kodak Photo CDs and were assigned the following numbers:
0121, 0141, 1518, 1519, and 1694. In 2012, the digital images were copied to a networked data drive and converted to JPEG
format in order to facilitate preservation and access. The archivist also assigned titles to the groupings of slides contained
on each photographic CD to further facilitate access.
Scope and Content Note
Consists of 361 digitized slides documenting Irvine Company developments in Orange County, California; the Irvine Ranch and
the Irvine family; and the planning and development of areas within Orange County. Included are aerial, exterior, interior,
and plan views, as well as copy prints of schematic drawings, plans, maps, and several photographic portraits. Most of the
images are in color. The slides are organized into five groupings:
