Biographical Note

Philip H. Chadbourn was the Charleville-Mézières delegate for the Commission for Relief in Belgium during World War I.

Scope and Content of Collection

The papers document Philip H. Chadbourn's work for the Commission for Relief in Belgium through letters, reports, pamphlets, photographs, drawings, clippings, and memorabilia.
The collection contains clippings concerning the activities of the Commission for Relief in Belgium, including articles written by Chadbourn and a press release describing exhibits he presented to President Wilson at the White House. Many clippings discuss the activities of Vernon Kellogg. The correspondence includes copies of letters from Herbert Hoover to others that were forwarded to Chadbourn.
Illustrated thank you cards made by children can be found in the collection, along with an album of portraits drawn by H. Lemaine and additional drawings. The photographs include an image of a girl wearing a flour sack and a photo album labeled "souvenir de la fête américaine."
The collection includes several documents of William H. Chadbourn, including correspondence and a certificate.
