Biography

Anthony Boucher (born 1911 as William Anthony Parker White in Oakland, California) was best known as the mystery novel critic for the New York Times. An incredibly talented individual with broad-ranging interests, Boucher produced a weekly radio program "Golden Voices" for Pacifica station KPFA in Berkeley, California from 1949 until his death in 1968.

Collection Scope and Content Summary

Anthony Boucher produced a weekly radio program for Pacifica station KPFA in Berkeley California from the year Pacifica was founded in 1949 until his death in 1968. The show focused on the singers from the "Golden Age" of singing, primarily the acoustic years of the phonograph from 1900 until the mid 1920s.
This collection contains 170 tapes with approximately 214 shows spanning the years 1964-1968. It is unknown if prior years were not taped or if they were not saved. There is some dupliction of shows in the collection. Original Pacifica master tapes (donated by Pacifica Radio Archives in 2001) contained one program each, while dubbed tapes (originally acquired with the Boucher collection) held two shows each. Only Pacifica masters have been kept unless there was no master in which case the dub was kept. In some cases, there was a master for one of the shows on a dub, and both were kept, resulting in two copies of a show in the collection.
