    Biography

Maurice L. Graves was born January 28, 1926, in Gainsville, Florida. At 17 he began his lifelong career as a cook with a job at the Hereford Grill in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1944 he joined the U. S. Navy and for the next two years served as ship's cook in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. When he was finished with his service in the Navy, Graves moved to Los Angeles, California, and married on his 20th birthday. For the next 17 years he worked in restaurants primarily in the Hollwood area, including Tiny Naylor's. In 1963 he moved with his two daughters to Sacramento, California, and worked first at The Wayside and then a number of other establishments, including the La Mirada, George's, and The Lobby. Graves died in 2001 and was buried in Sunset Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento, California.
