    Abstract: Charles Gilman Smith Norris (1881-1945) was a novelist, dramatist, and editor. His published works include Salt: or, The education of Griffith Adams (1918), Brass: a novel of marriage (1921), Bread (1923), Pig iron (1925), Seed, a novel of birth control (1930), Zest (1933), Hands (1935), Bricks without straw (1938), and Flint (1944). The collection consists of Norris' literary manuscripts, many with holographic corrections.

    Biography

    Charles Gilman Smith Norris was born on April 23, 1881 in Chicago, Illinois; brother of writer Frank Norris; B.L., UC Berkeley, 1903; married writer Kathleen Thompson in 1909; became novelist, dramatist, and editor; assistant editor of Country life in America; circulation manager of Sunset magazine; art editor of American magazine (1908-13); published works include The amateur (1916), Salt: or, The education of Griffith Adams (1918), Brass: a novel of marriage (1921), Bread (1923), Pig iron (1925), Zelda Marsh (1927), Seed, a novel of birth control (1930), Zest (1933), Hands (1935), Bricks without straw (1938), and Flint (1944); he died on July 25, 1945 in Palo Alto, California.

    Collection consists of literary manuscripts of novelist Charles Gilman Norris, many with holographic corrections.
