Description
This scrapbook primarily concerns her high school life in Pacific Grove, California, her student years at Stanford University, and social events in Monterey and San Francisco. Included are programs, dance cards, clippings, invitations, calling cards, menus, valentine cards, academic notices, receipts and bills; many of the pages are annotated. Of note are items pertaining to social events in the women's dorm at Stanford; notes from a palm reading done on Johnson and three friends, Feb. 14, 1909; map of Palo Alto, 1909; an issue of the Mount Lowe Daily News, ca. 1911; and two stereographs of California scenery by C. W. J. Johnson, ca. 1880.
Background
Carrie Jette Johnson earned her A.B. in history at Stanford University in January 1912. She went on to become part owner and superintendent of The Muldoon School in Palo Alto, CA.
