Background
The Campuswide Honors Program (CHP) was founded at the University of California, Irvine in 1988 as part of the Division of
Undergraduate Education. CHP offers a specialized curriculum and student support services to academically talented undergraduates
in all majors. Incoming first-year students are admitted to CHP by invitation only; transfer and other students may apply
for admission. Students participate in three yearlong interdisciplinary courses in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences,
which satisfy a breadth of requirements. Students also work with faculty mentors to pursue independent research culminating
in the writing of a senior thesis. CHP sponsors many events, activities, and programs throughout the year, including peer
mentoring, community service projects, cultural outings, and other events designed to promote interaction between faculty
and students.
