    Some items are restricted to the use of Sunset Club members. The Huntington shall open the contents of the Collection which are dated thirty (30) years or more years earlier (or high resolution surrogates where the condition of specific originals does not permit them to be handled) for research use by registered Huntington Library readers and correspondents according to The Huntington's standard policies, procedures, and operating schedule.     Placed on deposit at the Huntington by the Sunset Club in 2010.

    Historical Note

    The Sunset Club was started in Los Angeles, California, in 1895 by Charles Dwight Willard (1866-1914), along with Charles Fletcher Lummis, W.C. Patterson, Bert Estes, and Fred L. Alles. It was modeled on the Sunset Club of Chicago as a men's social organization.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of the business records of the Sunset Club of Los Angeles from its inception in 1895, and currently updated through 2010. Included are club annals, programs and agendas, the text of lectures, essays, correspondence, event programs, memorial brochures, song books, and a few financial records. It also contains photographs, glass plate positives, some DVD and video, and a limited number of artifacts.
    Note: the following items continued to be in the custody of W. Horton as of June, 2010: Annals / Publications various Extra copies of Sunset Club Annals.

    Arrangement

    The collection is arranged by document function. It will be expanded and updated with future additions.

    Processing Information

    Processed by Huntington staff in 2012. In 2023, 10 memorial bronze plaques were returned to the Sunset Club at the Club's request.
