Marmaduke Raymond “Duke” Clark was born on September 23, 1889, in Orange, New Jersey. A graduate of The City College of New
York and Columbia University, he found work as an exhibitor and an actor before being dispatched to Siberia as senior secretary
of the Young Men’s Christian Association, attached to the Czechoslovak Legion and American Expeditionary Forces, from 1918
