Scope and Content Note

Bill files were created by Dan Hauser while he served as an assembly member, 1983-1996. The files may include bill analyses, amendments and resolutions, author's statements, testimony, press releases, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and committee statements.

Series 2 Subject Files 1982-1991

Arrangement

Subject Files are arranged alphabetically by subject heading.

Scope and Content Note

Subject files may contain newspaper clippings, press releases, correspondence, reports, notes, memoranda, and other materials. The subject files contain information gathered by Hauser, his chief of staff Luke Breit, and his Ukiah District Office. Many of the subject files relate to energy issues - in particular construction of PG and E's Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, economic development on the northern coast, fishing and fishery - especially as related to issues in his district, and environmental issues such as logging, timber and off-shore oil development. Series 3 Press Releases 1986-1991

Press Releases are arranged chronologically.

Scope and Content Note

Press releases were issued by Dan Hauser's Capitol and District Offices. Press Releases mainly relate to legislation introduced by Hauser, especially bills affecting his district. Other topics included timber, fishing, and coastal issues; meetings held by Hauser in his district; awards given to Hauser; hearings to be held; and occasional op-ed pieces.

Series 4 Chronological Correspondence 1985-1987

Correspondence is arranged chronologically by month.

Scope and Content Note

Chronological correspondence contains outgoing letters sent by Dan Hauser to individuals, public agencies, and other public officials. The correspondence usually relates to issues affecting his legislative district and includes support and opposition to projects affecting his district - in particular projects by such agencies as CalTrans and the Department of Fish and Game. Many of the letters are addressed to the Governor and ask for his support of Hauser's legislation or for increases in the budget for projects and programs in the district.

Timber Files are arranged alphabetically by subject.

Scope and Content Note

Timber files contain correspondence, reports, newsletters, newspaper clippings, press releases, notes, and similar materials related to timber and logging issues, especially issues on the northern coast of California. Subjects discussed include Hauser's views on forestry, acquisition of forestlands, jobs and job loss in the lumber industry, conflicts between the logging industry and environmentalists, and logging rules.

Series 6 Hearing Files 1985-1990

Hearing Files are arranged alphabetically by committee name then chronologically by hearing date.

Scope and Content Note

Committee Hearing Files are primarily for hearings called by Hauser for subcommittees that he chaired. The files contain transcripts, statements, reports, audiotapes, and other background information related to the hearing topic. Topics often dealt with the lumber industry and job losses within the industry. The committees with hearing files include: Assembly Committee on Economic Development and New Technologies: Rural Economic Development Subcommittee; Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development; Assembly Committee on Natural Resources: Fisheries Subcommittee; and Assembly Committee on Natural Resources: Timber Subcommittee.
