Scope and Content Note

John S. Sorracco (1866 - 1933) and his descendants were the source of this series of papers. Sorracco, son of Italian immigrants, arrived in Johnsville with his family, quickly laid claim to lands with water rights and made money leasing his water sources to the Jamison Mining Company during its heyday. Later he was a successful merchant, opening a general store first in Johnsville then in Portola. He and his wife Irene had two children, both girls, who were students in the Johnsville school.
