Biographical/Historical note

The Chico Army Air Field or Chico Army Flying School was located 5 miles north of Chico, Butte County, California during World War II. The base opened April 14, 1942 and closed December 31, 1945. Over 5,000 cadets and officers were instructed in basic and advance flight training. The city of Chico took over the property at its close.

The collection consists of materials assembled by Nena Vartabedian Childs during and after her employment at the Post Exchange on the Chico Army Air Field base.
