Scope and Contents note

This box contains the archive for the Alliance for Contemporary Book Arts, founded in 1987. As stated in the ACBA flyer, "The general inclination of the founders was to communicate to interested parties the direction and depth of creative work in the book arts in the Southern California region. The broader intent of the Alliance, however, was to encourage interaction among those active in the diverse aspects of the field." ACBA sponsored lectures, workshops, tours, exhibitions, and book fairs. In 1993 ACBA was selected by the American Printing History Association to host their prestigious J. Ben Lieberman Lecture (the chosen lecturer, Robert Bringhurst, spoke at the UCLA William Andrews Clark Memorial Library). In 1990 ACBA's "A Southern California Decade: An Exhibition of Contemporary Books," toured California. From 1988 to 1996 ACBA published the arts journal AbraCadaBrA. In 2000 ACBA merged with the Fine Press Book Association. Between 1989 and 2000 Carolee Campbell was secretary/treasurer of ACBA and organized many of the workshops and events sponsored by the organization.
