    Abstract: This collection contains one photograph album of the Walter S. Pierce family's life in San Francisco, one album of the family's summer camping expeditions in the Santa Cruz mountains, and one scrapbook documenting Edwin Pierce's 1904-06 summer adventures in Marin and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Also included are thirty seven loose photographs of the family's Grand Tour of Europe.

    Biography

    Walter S. Pierce was born in Massachusetts in 1842. By 1880 he had moved to San Francisco with his first wife Lucille and was making his living as a music instructor. He prospered and by 1905 was the proprietor of the Walter S. Pierce Piano Manufacturing Company in San Francisco. His son, Edwin was born in 1891, and daughter Ruby was born in 1894. Upon the death of his first wife, he married Minnie E. Miller.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    This collection contains one photograph album of the Walter S. Pierce family's life in San Francisco, one album of the family's summer camping expeditions in the Santa Cruz mountains that includes a diary by Edwin Pierce of his activities with the 1915 Boys Club of San Francisco, and one scrapbook by Edwin Pierce of his 1904-1906 summer adventures in Marin and clippings of the 1906 earthquake ruins. Also included are thiry seven loose photographs of the family's Grand Tour of Europe.
