Abstract: The William A. Campbell papers are contained within the Tuskegee Airmen Archive. This archive consists of materials related
to those individuals who served at Tuskegee Army Air Field, and its predecessors, as well as materials pertaining to Tuskegee
Airmen, Inc., a non-profit organization.
This collection contains items in a variety of formats including books, videotapes, photographs, posters, and documents. Materials
in this collection primarily relate to African American history, the military history and service of the Tuskegee Airmen,
and Campbell's personal life. Some items pertaining to Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. are also included.

Biography
In 1937, William A. Campbell graduated from the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree
in Business. Campbell went on to become a member of class SE-42-F, which graduated at Tuskegee Army Air Field on July 3, 1942.
Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. On June 2, 1943 Campbell was among the group of soldiers that served
as wingmen to pilots of the 33rd Fighter Group in the first combat mission for 99th pilots in WWII.
Campbell would eventually become commanding officer of the 99th Pursuit Squadron and in 1947 he became Group Commander of
the 332nd Fighter Group. Campbell went on to fight in two more wars during his military career, as he served in both Korea
and Vietnam. He remained in the service until 1970, reaching the rank of full Colonel. After his retirement in 1970 Campbell
taught management at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and is a member of the Tuskegee Airmen Commission
established by the State of Alabama.

Included are numerous certificates honoring Campbell's United States military service and his personal accomplishments, photographs
