Biographical/Historical Sketch
Giese, internationally known photobiologist, was a member of the Stanford University
faculty from 1933 until his retirement in 1970. He received his a.b. at the University
of Chicago in 1927 and his Ph.D. at Stanford in 1933. An authority on marine
invertebrate biology, cell physiology, and protozoology, he was completing the seventh
revision of his textbook CELL PHYSIOLOGY when he died in January 1994.

reports, articles, class roll books, student lab manuals, scientific photographs, and
some correspondence. Personal papers include photographs, correspondence, travel files,
poetry, and flute music.
