Series 1. Radio Projects (ca. 1938-1945)

Physical Description: Boxes 28-37

Scope and Content Note

The Radio Projects series includes script materials for produced and what may be unproduced radio projects in which Lewin was involved in some capacity. The series is arranged alphabetically into subseries by known radio program or project titles. For unidentified radio material, the proccessor created the subseries, Unidentified Projects. The writings include a mixture of complete and partial scripts, sketches, segments, and ideas for radio programs, such as Armed Forces Radio Service productions featuring Bing Crosby and Edgar Bergen, among others, The Chase and Sanborn Program, Play Broadcast, Scattergood Baines, and The Tommy Riggs Show, among others. A portion of the file titles were created and/or enhanced by the processor.

Physical Description: Boxes 34-41 and 45-53

Scope and Content Note

The Motion Picture Projects series includes script materials and a small amount of production information for produced and what appear to be unproduced film projects in which Lewin was involved in some capacity. The series is arranged into a subseries alphabetically by project titles. The script material includes a mixture of complete and partial scripts and notes. Additionally, there are occasional shooting schedules, call sheets, and letters about productions found among the files. Projects include Alice in Wonderland and I Will, I Will...For Now, among others. Of particular note are scripts documenting Lewin's association with Bob Hope, including Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number!, Eight on the Lam, and I'll Take Sweden. Additionally, there are materials for Hollywood and Vine, an unproduced work which was later adapted into the published novel, The Glass Bed. Scope and Content Note

The Television Projects series contains script materials for produced and what may be unproduced television productions in which Lewin was involved in some capacity. The series is arranged alphabetically into subseries by project titles. The writings include a mixture of complete and partial scripts, notes, story ideas, monologues, outlines, treatments, and occasional production information for television features and episodic series. Projects in the series include Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre, The Brady Bunch, Coffee, Tea, or Me?, The Dennis Day Show, Diff'rent Strokes, The Eddie Cantor Comedy Theatre, Facts of Life, The Ghost an Mrs. Muir, The Good Guys, Green Acres, The Life of Riley, My Favorite Martian, The Odd Couple, and The Ray Milland Show, among others. Scope and Content Note

The Stage Productions series includes script materials for produced and what may be unproduced stage projects in which Lewin was involved in some capacity. The Gag Files series consists of jokes, gags, and/or one-liners handwritten on 3x5 index cards. The file was created by Lewin and is organized by topics and/or subjects. It appears that the file is in its original order; however, it is not clear how the topics are organized. Many of the topics appear to be divided into subject divisions related to the topic.

Scope and Content Note

The Book Projects series consists of materials relating to the novel that Lewin co-wrote with Norman Panama entitled, The Glass Bed. The series contains typescript manuscripts, reviews, publicity, and a small number of letters regarding the project. The Glass Bed is adapted from the motion picture screenplay by Lewin and Panama titled Hollywood and Vine. See also the Motion Pictures Series for material related to Hollywood and Vine. The series is arranged alphabetically by file titles which reflect the content of the folders.

The Unidentified Projects series contains a mixture of partial and complete scripts, notes, idea, outlines, and a small number of letters all of which could be related to possible motion picture, radio, television, and/or other writing projects. The capacity in which Lewin was involved with these projects or if they were produced is unknown. Additionally, there are a small number of writings for what appears to be dinner speeches and roasts for politicians written in the 1970s. Scope and Content Note

The Business Files series contains a small amount of fragmentary records documenting business dealings related to Lewin's career. Included are agency contracts between Lewin and assorted representative agencies. Most of the contracts appear to be generic and very few include information about specific projects. Additionally, there are a small number of bulletins and rosters pertaining to the Writer's Guild of America strike in which it appears Lewin was involved in some capacity. There is no specific arrangement to the series.

The 63rd Infantry Division Service Series contains materials related to Lewin's military service during World War II. Included are letters from fellow war veterans who served in the Division; a manuscript contrived by Pfc Alan Kellock; a photograph of the 63rd choir performing in Baton Rough, Louisiana; 10 copies of a newsletter contrived by Lewin; and a small number of Blood and Fire, a newspaper-like newsletter by and about the division.
